is anyone sowing their broad beans yet?

I've got some aquadulce to sow for an early crop and wondered if anyone was sowing yet or if I should leave it a few weeks?

I sowed some about 4 weeks ago - but those were for a (fingers crossed) late autumn crop, not for overwintering! Sorry, this doesn't help answer your question ;-)

I have long since given up on over wintering broad beans. I prefer to sow in pots in the greenhouse in spring and plant out when conditions are right. They soon catch up.. so sorry, im not much help either.

Planning on sowing mine in Oct. Just enjoying the quiet time of not sowing anything at the moment!

I recall Two_Sheds posting that she planted hers in November to get them to about 4" before heavy Winter.

I will plant mine fifteen minutes after she does.

I usually plant mine at the end of September in London, should have a good few weeks to get going before the first frosts then.

If I've any space to fill in October I use broad beans to overwinter, but I doubt there'll be any space this year!

How I long to have overwintered broadies and an early crop but there's no chance of that up here as those that manage to survive end up behind the spring sown ones. Like arpoet I've given up on the idea and start a few containers off in the greenhouse in Feb/March

Not yet, they'll get too tall and could be damaged by the wind more easily

Hmmm, i've never grown them before and bought a packet of seed a few weeks ago with the intention of sowing in Oct. I'm having second thoughts now.

Meeces had my onions last year with that in mind why did I buy 150 sets today

I have my broad been seeds and will adopt a belt and braces approach by making three staggered sowings. End of Sept, middle of Oct and end of Oct.

Surely this will give me summat still growing come the spring?
