"Freckles" on my tomatoes

Hi guys,

A few of my ripening tomatoes are developing what I can only describe as freckles. The not so ripe ones are ok but as they darken from orange to red, brown freckles appear:



I've checked through all my veg growing books, checking for the signs of blight etc, and I can't find any reference to this 'freckling'. Can anyone tell me what it is, is it serious and can we still eat the tomatoes?

Reet, It looks very similar to Pox/Fleck two different genetic problems that tend to occur at the same time. And yes (if I am right) whilst the toms may not look pretty they will eat OK.
