Can anyone recommend a Wooden Raised Bed Kit?

I am after 4x4ft x approx 30cm deep raised bed for square foot gardening I have seen a few of interest online but would l would really appreciate any comments or recommendations in relation to any particular kits anyone has experience of.

i went to a local building supplier which has a timber yard, they said what wood was best, they then cut it to size and cut a post into sections for the corners. the kits just look too expensive for what they are. google came up with a few in your area. I bought a couple from unwins about 3 years ago, they were easy to put together and are still looking great with no signs of roting yet. The beds were about £45 each though, if you can't find any cheap/free scafoliding boards etc first i would recommend them.

That sounds a bargain briggsy, go and measure it please. How long have you had it?

DIY is definitley the way to go. Scaffolding boards will not last though. Much better to uses something like decking boards (preferably second hand and free) or pressure treated timber. Basic DIY skills only needed

There's always Link-a-board I've not used them but at least they wont rot.

Our school ones came from QD (a local chain) for about £20-£25. A metre square, and about 15cm deep (although you could stack one of top of another if you wanted)

They've done better than the deeper one we got with our Morrisons vouchers, which has buckled & collapsed under the weight of soil

Hi sorry for the delay - just got in from work.

The measurments are 37 inches by 71 inches (3 feet by 6 feet roughly)

i got them april and may this year.

Cheers Lou, I'll have a look on their website. I've had an area of lawn covered in cardboard for a few months now. I tried pumpkins through it, but because it must be impacted underneath, their roots couldn't penetrate. I plan to dig it over and make another raised bed out of it.

My OH made 4 raised beds out of our small front garden (its surrounded by an 8ft hedge so not your std front garden! He used scaffolding planks and although I read an earlier post stating they won't last these are still going strong after 4 years.......I should say that after sacrificing the small lawn we had for veggies we got the call saying we were top of the list for an allotment!!! he put decking along the top so there's a nice seat whilst weeding. Here's a photo of them when just finished - now they are a bit overgrown with cucumbers and salad stuff.....

We picked up some decking board from our local W****s which was reduced as it was seconds and they also had 33% off as well. Worked out cheaper than wood planking.

I use gravel boards from B&Q which are good value and pretty sturdy. I have also used off cuts from my decking which were also a very cheap way of making a stacking compost heap of the type normally costing the best part of 50 quid at Dobbies.
