My Mr Little's are still throwing out green leaves on the patio (these gave me Xmas spuds last year)

The Charlottes I planted "for Xmas" are only just showing (also on patio).

One tomato plant has decided to be a potato, in the gh. I have no recollection of planting a potato in the gh this year, but I guess I must have *puzzled* - the foliage is 20" tall already

I hope you don't have a heavy clay soil because if the weather becomes very wet they're likely to root.

You really must protect them from the frost.

Normally I plant mine in couple of large contianers on the patio and as the leaves start to come up I add another layer of compost.

Then as soon as the first frost come's I move them into the green house at night to bring them out again once the day tempeture is above freezing.

Then on christmas eve I turn them out so I can cook them for christmas dinner

I've put a few in potato sacks on the patio with the intention of putting into the greenhouse (unheated lean to contraption) once the tomatoes and chillis have finished. They do seem to be doing well with several shoots actually higher than the bags now. I'm topping up with used growbag compost - its really an experiment to see how they fair - the irony is that I'm in India for Christmas so no christmas dinner spuds required! same reaosn I abandoned sprouts this year (that and for the last 2 years they've been rubbish!) I was going to say we're usually lucky with mild winters but I do remember being the coldest place in the UK one night last winter at -10 brrrrr

Same here, not many but just enough for our family. Over the moon with that, first time we've grown christams spuds and it worked :-)

No Christmas potatoes - again. Loads of good-looking haulms, kept in the polytunnel with fleece over the bins on frosty or frost-likely nights.

But no spuds. Do I hold any sort of record for being a trier?

Just watched your video! Did you really put your fork into one of your precious spuds? I think its called Spuds Law - I always do it and usually through the biggest, most perfect spud.

My "Christmas" spuds in the unheated gh (planted August I think) died back over winter, came back in the hot March and are now looking really good, lots of foliage.

I might have a furtle this weekend if I feel lucky
