  • alternative to butternut?

    Dear All,

Just looking through the King's seed catalogue. I'm thinking of an alternative to butternut this year, and am tempted by the Metro, described as 'butternut type' .

I love butternut, and would be horribly disappointed if it was very different, but no space to grow both.

Anyone grown it? I'm based in London, btw.

Well I've grown Cobnut and Avalon before, both of which are 'Butternut types' and they taste just as good and are a darn sight easier to grown than BNS. So, on that basis, I'm guessing Metro will be much the same but I haven't actually grown that particular variant before

BTW, just a thought (as you haven't the space for both) I grow my Butternut types up and over fences, trees etc, if that's an option for you? Apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs
