If someone samples your crop what would you do?

When you work hard all year maintaining and growing, I believe it's a bit cheeky to go sampling or have others sampling. I do proffer crops or young plants to those to whom I get chatting. I have swapped with other plot holders too. We are on the whole a small bunch of well mannered people and you will very often get given someone else's glut crops which I in turn like to respond back with something that perhaps the other person doesn't grow. If I found someone on my plot I would have a quiet word that I don't appreciate them taking without asking.

By sampling your crop I take it you mean plain thieving. With the thought of the season of goodwill in mind, the brussel sprout crop is foremost. One of the guys on our site had his stolen last year. Every complete plant pulled out and removed. A whole season's work and expectation of a contribution to xmas lunch gone overnight. Cannot advocate chopping the thieves' hands off but the most severe retribution possible is wished upon those responsible.

on our site,there is no excuse for simply helping yourself without the plot holders say so,therefore if anyone was known about,they can expect to be thrown of the site,not only report it to the site steward but the police as well,i hate thieves of any description,i second the amputation,of the offending limb,but not on my plot as it will frighten the veggies ,i doubt they would want to risk loosing the other one,

If it was simply someone sampling a raspberry as they walked past, kind of thing, then I'd make a sarky comment....*grumble grumble*

If I saw someone actually helping themselves on a larger scale, I'd tell them none too politely that they were being reported to the site rep

Well said. There should be an option for mindless violence . Seriously though "option one" Ya gotta be kiddin right.

I don't have a problem in the greenhouse or poly, the toads can help themselves to as many slugs as they want.
In the garden the damn slugs and evil caterpillars are a problem. Other than that the sheep keep pretty much to their fields.

Whichever way you look at it, it's stealing and shouldn't be condoned. I certainly wouldn't help myself to the fruit of someone else's labour and I wouldn't expect a fellow grower to steal mine.

I am more than happy to let my fellow plotholders take some of my excess produce if invited to do so. However, If I was to catch someone uninvited on my plot taking stuff from my beds, well, that's theft in my book! I would probably have a word and make it clear that I would be telling not just the site coordinator, but my fellow plotholders of what has happened. Any apology would not be accepted either

I would let the dog "sample" someone's leg...
