  • Pumpkin question?

Cut nine pumpkins the other day that I'd grown for the grandbairns for halloween.

Some are fully ripened and orange and others still have a bit of green on them.

Will they be ok until the end of October to be used as halloween lanterns?

PS One had been munched by what I can only assume were rats, thats why I lifted them straight away.

I would have thought so Snadge put the green ones in the sun to ripen off. Greenhouse if you have one or sunny windowsill.

Pumpkins last for ages. We left ours in the back garden after Halloween last year and it sat there quite happily until frost turned it to mush in February.

the whole point of growing them, in the past, was to store them for food when nothing much was available in harsh winters LOL

So yes they will store for months

          Hi Snadger,

They should be fine and should last upto and beyond Halloween (if left uncarved ), so long as they are in a dry place. As VVG says, putting the greener ones somewhere sunny should help them ripen fully.

Thats what I thought, but not being familiar with them (familiar with a pumpkin drums up strange connotations in the mind!) I just thought I'd check!
