  • Anything worth planting now?

    Hi All,

Just tidying up the veg plot, picking the last of everything. I never know what to do with the space around now. Are there any veg worth planting at this time of year? Was thinking of putting some garlic in, any other ideas?

    Thanks,

    Dom

I've just stocked up on Onions and Garlic. No Broadies round here - all sold out!

            Empty space!!

My veg plot is still full. I've still got beetroot, cabbage, calabrese, carrots, chard, kale, leeks, lettuce, parsnips, radishes, spring onions, swedes and turnips. Then there's the Christmas potatoes in bags and I've recently planted the overwintering onions.

No point having the space and nothing in it. Get some garlic, onions, winter lettuce and see if you can find some brassicas at a garden centre or somewhere.

Have you tried get broadies on-line. I already had some, but didn't have any hardy peas, so ordered them last night on Mr Fothergills, bonus, they did have half-price brassica and lettuce plants too, trouble was, onions and garlic also hopped into my basket too.

If you look on the "What I Did Today" thread, you'll get a good idea of what folk are planting now. I've put in some brassicas, onions, garlic and broad beans and this week I'll seed a carrot bed and cover with fleece.

This is where a bit of forward planning comes into its own ~ winter crops need to be sown and planted July/Aug really

Same here, plus this year I've got lots of lovely mooli and China Rose which, thanks to the heatwave, are ready really. As are my winter lettuces, but I luckily have another tray of seedlings at home ready to go out when it cools down a bit.
I've got trays & trays of winter onions (seed & sets); they never do very well for me so I've gone a bit overboard.
Garlic is in modules & I've got another 6 bulbs to split up and plant with school on Tues
Broad beans will go in direct in Nov

The French beans have now almost all been taken out and I have a few empty patches, which I'll fill with transplanted green manures taken from the rest of my plot (I have them coming up here there and everywhere because I let them self-seed)
