  • Peas and Beans together

Does anyone think it would be ok to grow pea meteor with some french beans on the same canes. Now that I've built my cane structure and planted my peas (about 20cm tall at present) I've thought I might be able to put the beans in next to them and they all intermingle happily together up the same canes...The reason for my thinking is that I have suddenly realised that pea meteor are a dwarf variety and therefore my 8foot cane structure is a little OTT for the little plants. I have to build another one for my beans but wondered if I could mix and match....

I think the only problem would be overcrowding as the lower bean leaves would shade the peas .
This could lead to mildew due to poor air flow or a poorer performance of the peas due to less light.
I think if you are careful and aware of these problems you should be fine!
I presume you'd be planting seedlings rather than directly into the soil??

Give it a go! Keep them well watered and fed and you should be OK.
