I'd like an easier to reproduce treatment that makes human beings incapable of exceeding their ecological footprint and thus killing other human beings by using up their resources.

you would change your tune if your plot got attacked by leek moth.

I personally wouldn't change a thing that Mother nature has to offer as I like to think that everything has a purpose in life.
I get a kick out of experimenting and trying to work with nature rather than having everything come up perfect in the plot every year, or having some boffin sort a problem for me.
Its all these, setbacks, tribulations and jubilations that make veg growing the interesting hobby it is!

Hmm, surely we could be more ambitious, and give the boffins a challenge... how about a swarm of programmable super wasps to patrol the plot and keep those pests at bay?

Ok then, how about a machine that eats up dog poo and poos out grass seed!

How about something that stops people having having too many children, in light of the population increase worldwide?
            Oops we already have!.
somehow it must be made available, affordable and acceptable to all the world's people.

Oooh, now this thread is on a whole new level.

Different solutions for different societies perhaps?

Apparently the Netherlands has approx 7 per 1000 teenage pregnancy whereas the UK has approx 27 per 1000 (in a recent article in the press). Good sex education I hear you say? Nothing to do with the baby being the responsibility of the family, including the wider family of aunts and uncles then? No child benefit must concentrate the mind.

In other societies, the birthrate drops as the women become educated.
Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you are probably right.

pssst!! Remember the boffins have got it wrong in the past. If the programming goes wrong, how are you going to control your super wasps?

Shame it isn't used more in England, England is now the 6th most densely populated country in the world, with 401 people per sq kilometre, according to the Daily Mail. Only Bangladesh,Taiwan, South Korea, Lebanon, and Rwanda are more crowded. Best get our own house in order first...

I'd like the boffins to breed slugs and snails that only eat weeds or dead vegetable matter. These could then be released to crossbreed with the ones I have in my garden, where the dominant weed-eating genes would be passed down through the generations, ensuring that in a year or two only weed-eaters are left.

I don't want this to come over wrong but a sizeable proportion of those resident in the UK were not born here. It's not a question of breeding being out of control. In the 1960's there was a huge effort to persuade people from other countries to settle here to fund government expenditure which couldn't cope because of a shrinking population. Instead of learning from that mistake, it has been repeated as there is a now a need to fund expenditure on these earlier immigrants on pensioners and the likes and in another 40 - 50 years there will be another crisis.

how about a strain of council councillers/employees that think and talk in plain english, and not just buck-passing time servers ,so that we lose no more allotments to landgabbing supermarkets and the like....

I would like to see a raised bed that sort of blows up like a lifeboat/dinghy thing all ready filled with compost so that I could have an instant tidy veg patch!

Erm... might have to be a bit careful that I didn't stab it with my fork - oh well, back to the drawing board
