        • Is it too late to join in?

I'm growing Garden Pearl, Minibel and Roma.

All started off on the windowsill in early to mid March and then when they had proper leaves other than the seed leaves, they all went out to greenhouse.
I havent lost any, but they havent grown massively either. Roma are about 5 inches tall now. Minibel are tiny (but then they are dwarf plants) and the Garden Pearl are looking strong at about 4 inches tall.
None have flower buds yet (unlike the Sungold which does) and they're all still in smallish pots.

I plan to plant them in flower buckets evetually, if it ever warms up or stops raining!

            • I am growing red alert and red robin. I put the red alert ones outside in a plastic greenhouse just over a week ago and they are now out of the greenhouse. The leaves seem very small and the plants are about 10 inches tall - maybe a little taller as I did pot them quite deeply when I put them outside. Is it normal for the leaves to be small? I don't know as I've never grown them before.

The red robin are on window sills inside and still quite small but they have shot up the past week. They are still in 3 inch pots but have gone from about 1 inch tall to 3 inches in the space of a week. Again, I don't know how tall I can expect them to grow. They have a more bushy appearance than the red alert.

Yep but they are in bucket pots just hanging around at home.

I was thinking of putting them in today Bren but its going to drop a little cooler (so they say) so I think I may just leave them in the greenhouse till the weekend now. I've got the bed ready. What spacing do you think 24"?

Not a bad idea to get them out the way. The Roma are from the seed you sent me VVG there nice strong plants and they've started to flower. Thanks again x

                    • Went out on sunday. Think the latah early are flowering. Aunties Scarlet and VVG would be very proud f the yellow stuffer, the pantano and the black cherry tomato. Transplanted and tied to canes as the plot was quite windy. Gardeners delight, moneymaker and sungold look quite robust. Bush tomato varieties, such as the latah and minibel, were still quite hobbit sized.

I will be very cross, if lots of rain makes for lots of air borne blight. Taking a huge chance in open ground and outside.

                      • Mine are still in smallish pots but I think I'll plant them into their final larger pots this weekend if the weather holds and night time temperatures don't drop. I'm growing Maya, Losetto, Tumbling Tom (both red and yellow ones), Red Alert (first time I've grown this and it doesn't look great so far), Garden Pearl and Minibel.

I'm growing cordon toms as well, but I like a few bush tomatoes as they usually ripen earlier than the cordons and, contrary to what it says in all the books, I find they give a long cropping season too.

                            • I have had 2 to 3 dozen Toms from my two Red Alerts over the last fortnight.

Have two more plants sitting on the bedroom window sill. These two are from an end of March sowing and are setting fruit.

Is the Maya a small bush type [did it come from me?]...I was chatting to someone at a plant swap and he reckons my Maja's are pronounced Maha - and because of the shape are said to resemble - well - shapely ladies of the night. And judging by the fruit last year, he's not wrong.

I'm loving my bush tomatoes this year - all in and I am not sideshooting or caning any of my tomatoes at all. Nope - not one. Bring it on.
