We used to have a plastic fish that played a tune when you clapped your hands, not sure if it was a sturgeon though

There could be ridges in the tray base to channel the water along.
What sort of dimensions are you thinking of?

Do you think RTs made out of neoprene or the like would work?

My OH has suggested greenhouse lighting. Don't know why as it doesn't seem a helpful suggestion to me. I think he's losing it...

Personally i think that if the costing is reasonable, and people can afford to buy them, they could be made of just about any format of plastics, although Neoprene or polychloroprene could well be a little to flexible to be able to hold its shape. As the plants roots swell it would push the form out and they would not be useable in the cartridge system being able to remove them and check the growth, then to replace them.
Nice and strong though. I could grow some carrots in a pair of old wellies i suppose

I'd like seed trays that are stackable.. and stable! I bring my plants from the house up to the allotment every week in the spring and it was a right pain in the backside last spring. I don't have a car, but I can imagine it's a pain even if you have one!
Stackable trays, especially if you could have a bent piece of plastic that allows you to pull plants out without having 'crush' the bottom to get them out. And stable and not wobbly
