Why not grow some tom's specifically for pasta sauce? San Merino is a cracker. Cheers, Tony.

I agree about Brandywine - it's the most flavoursome, robust tomato I've tried. I've grown it for two years in a row, saving the seeds. This year, once again I'm growing it - these are what I've sown so far:

      Brandywine
      Gardeners Delight
Friend's Garden (from tomatoes grown by a friend).

      All are from saved seed.

                  • Umm.. so far:
                    Tigerella,
                    Lemon tree,
                    Sub Arctic Cherry,
                    Coer di Bue.

Only tried the Sub Arctic before, and got no ripe ones as all me toms got blitted. The chutney's not bad though.

I've hardly got any good patio space, no greenhouse, and I'm not trying too many at the lottie as I've not tried them out there before, and I think it's a bit exposed. It's far too tempting though... I'm sure I can cram another few pots on the windowsill...

                      • Only three varieties this year Bloody butcher for the big ones, Roma for passata and Gardeners delight to nibble! Oh, and one yellow cherry from Nicos but it is being rather slow all the others are in flower. That makes four!

                        • not sure really. I 'rescued' a couple of baby plums, and a sungold. I also have the usual black ones, Black Truffle, Brads Black Heart, Black Cherry, but also have some new ones now, Blue OSU, Black Prince (I can't remember how many I'm sure I sowed some, they're from saving last year), PW French Black, 2 single ones that I think Zaz is growing but I might jinx them if i say they're growing ok so far...Green Velvet, Black Krim. And some Black Russian.
I'm only growing the Black Krim because I gave away all the Black Truffle seeds that I really love! doh! and the only ones I have left were all mixed up with the Black Krim....
Also growing some bush basket toms, and some Principe Borghese.
I'm going to garden center porn next week too to see what other offerings they may have in the heirloom tomato aisle
