Lunar Planting - what have you grown today?

Hello all! It's that time again when some of us are starting to open our seed boxes, so I will be listing the schedule as per the Lunar Calendar, each day.

Tomorrow goes like this:-

New moon - Leaf Scorpio

Synodic:
Sow leaf plants and above ground annuals, eg. Lettuce, Spinach, Asparagus, Broccoli, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Sprouts. Grains are also good to plant now. This is a good time to pick vegetables if they are to be stored.

Biodynamic:
Moon in Scorpio: This is a Water sign. It is a good time to sow Leaf plants like Cabbages, but it would not be a good time to sow Fruiting plants like Broad Beans (Fava), Fruits Harvested now will store for longer.

Sidereal:
Moon in Scorpio: An excellent time for planting, germination and strong sturdy growth will result.

DISCLAIMER - info is from a worldwide website so may include things that you in your part of the world may not be able to sow today - so please use common sense.

Was going to try Synodic only this year Chris, but then somebody else threw my plans in the air by teasing me with tomato sowing on Boxing Day - a fruit day...so I will be trialling both I think. I plan to sow two of each tomato variety on a fruit day firstly, then the next two using synodic for the next three months. I want to trial both cycles plus early versus late sowing.confused? Yes, so am I

Yah, I hope to.. depends if I can fit things in though - I didn't get to grow much last year, so hoping to get a bit more in this year.

Really? Are you really sowing these on Xmas Eve? I don't start sweetcorn or cukes until mid April ...

That's got me all confused too! I presume the advice is world-wide and that the same list of plants is also recited every time the same moonphase occurs throughout the year. I'd be willing to give it a try but I just don't understand it. The more I read the more confused I become (no rude comments please). Its not helped by having 3 different versions. Think I'll stick to planting whatever takes my fancy on the day.

I'm in this year VVG - I'm doing the biodynamic method as someone bought me "in tune with the moon 2012".

I read it all and it's most complicated when they started on with nodes and what eliptical orbits do but I can follow the charts at least!

Did some onion seeds on the the root day and they have already started coming up!

It's not been easy for me to follow either but after a while you kind of get in the swing. Great to hear you sowed your onions. I have not started anything yet but next fruit day is mine
I will be putting up tomorrow's, tonight. What are you looking to sow next?

VC the veg seeds suggested are there as examples of the types that should be sown and when. So for example on the Biodynamic method it suggests leaf and those produced above ground crops, which for this time of year could be setting out an asparagus bed or sowing some lettuce in a window container. It doesn't mean if you're in the UK that sowing sweet corn is great for us right now! I know it's confusing but i think you are right in that the calendar is world-wide. Hope this clarifies.

Thanks VVG. So you combine your knowledge of what it is appropriate to grow in your area at that time of year with the more general advice to grow leaf crops on that specific day? I think its all the strange words that confuse me most. If it said say "22nd December - sow leaf crops" - I'd understand. I am just a simple confused old biddy and you must make allowances!

Yes that's exactly how I do it. I will amend it to read that way in future

NEW MOON

Synodic:

Moon in Sagittarius: Dry and barren. Good time to plant onion sets and bulbs.

I can't remember what was there before you amended it! Think Sweetcorn has gone AWOL though - thank goodness. In celebration of my "almost got it" status I shall sow a pinch of little gem lettuce right this very minute!!

VVG - I am doing aubergines next on 3rd Jan - a fruit day with an ascending moon in the sign of taurus and the constellation of aries . Then another batch of onions on 14th Jan on a root day with a descending moon in the sign of libra and the contellation of virgo.

Don't know what any of that means but I'm practising reading my charts!!!

Piggle - I'm soooooo impressed! Can we have it in English now?
VVG, Can I pick and mix from the 3 types - Synodic, Biodynamic & Sidereal?
Your Sidereal says that tomorrow would be good for planting garlic cloves - and it just so happens that I bought some organic ones yesterday in the supermarket and I'll have some to spare.
I've sown the lettuce seed but its Salad Bowl, not Little Gem. They're not up yet!
