  • Sounds like I've lost the plot with my leaves! VVG I'm impressed that you can check it by satellite but please don't tell me how as I'll never understand.
Dare I say this but the biodynamic schedule for the 2nd/3rd Feb that you've posted isn't the same as the GC - or the GC one may be wrong as it has a solitary root day on the 2nd and you said that you couldn't have a single day thingy.
Some of the confusion seems to stem from the time changeover between moon phases during the day. It is too simplistic to show just one symbol for a day when, as Thelma's book shows, a day can cover two phases. I'm not smart enough to work it out for myself and I'm too mean to buy the book so, I'm going to stick with my interpretation of the pretty pictures in the hope that most of the time I'll be right. Whatever happens, its a good discipline that is making me open my seed box most days!

Good question. I was going to ask you! Despite the current arctic feel here, I could be planting new potatoes in the tunnel so is that next week?

We only grow second earlies because of the dreaded blight so I was thinking I would start chitting inside from root week in March and then plant out in April.

I'll take advice! Outdoor potatoes may be were I fall down just because it's so wet here and getting the soil right and then planting and ridging up has to go with the weather.

That polytunnel has my name on it! I need two, gardening in the dry when all around is wet and windy just can't be beaten. OH is fleecing up for me afternoons and he announced that it was pleasingly warm in there today when I said I wouldn't have bothered unfleecing if I'd known how wrong the forecast was going to be. Whereas this morning it was really spooky with the covering of snow making my head torch light bounce back at me strangely while the snow cracked and groaned all around.

        • For synodic potatoes I've got 7-14 March. 17th is St Ps day and that happens to coincide with biodynamic 17-18th. April will be 5-12th I think so 6th for me as its Good Friday too.
Freezing here too March. When I went to Ryton potato day their growing trials revealed that the best medium was 25% sand, 25% leaf mold, 50% compost. It made a very light, non clumping compost which surprised me. Everyone guessing got it wrong, we all chose a heavier medium.

          • Just read your and VC's knock about re tunnel. I can't be greedy - I'll put it up here, sling a couple of hammocks up and you can visit!

So is it Synodic roots next week? Sand? - a trip to the beach then for that and seaweed. Pain washing the salt out!

                • Thanks for your offer Marchogaeth, but I'm sure I can fit it in one of my gardens and you can both have a trip to the seaside or big city (whichever it fits in the best).
I wondered about sand too. Can you use beach sand for gardens and if so, how? I just happen to know where there is a plentiful supply!

Why should we think of you when collecting driftwood at Full moon? I'm confused again!!

But if the GC is going to be challenged every time it is posted, somebody needs to post the alternative and own it. I am following synodic and feel like I am wasting my time in putting up a biodynamic schedule that is quoted as wrong in posts, it's confusing to those who are following it. I'm happy to post synodic only.
When I checked GC against the satellite tracking for January, it was correct?!?

I've never done it but my understanding is you can use it but you have to wash the salt out so you need a container that you can drain the water out from several times until the salt has disolved and washed away. You just keep having a little taste. I was going to put it in a bin and then syphon the water off once it had settled before refilling (so I'd deffinitely get a taste). I always thought builder's sand was the same (salty) but I'm sure I've seen people talking about using it in mixtures.

                            • I'm not always challenging you VVG (honest)- I'm just confused by all the different versions. I check one calendar against the other when you post them and try to work out the reasoning behind each version - but can't understand the logic so have decided to stick with the childish pictures - but I have the GC bookmarked also and refer to it. If it wasn't for you and this thread I wouldn't be doing this so you have at least one convert - albeit a bit of a dumbo!!

If this is aimed at me I'm sorry, I was only trying to help VC None of it really makes sense to me, so I'll just shut up, and carry on using my book for myself *>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>goes away to hide*
