Thoughts please from those following synodic.

I will pop the biodynamic schedule up later tonight once we've cleared this up.
Looking at something else online it states first quarter (49%) on the 29th. The Gardeners Calendar always seems to roll a day ahead, which I'm thinking is probably their cusp day (others 24 hour crossover indicating no sow). Given that this is a leap year, am thinking we have an extra day's shift. To account for all of this I intend to start my sowings on the first day of March.

OK, so bearing in mind that I have no knowledge on this subject other than the rules from the GC web site and one or two others and access to a phase of the moon calendar, as I PMed you I am having trouble with the GC and the actual moon phases because of the exact times of phase change. Last leaf day the GC started 36 hours before the actual change time so if you planted on day two I reckon you were still wrong.

For this fruit phase the quarter started at 01.21 on St David's Day so I would have said no planting till the afternoon on that day if you allow a 12 hour wait period.

For the up coming root period. GC starts this on March 7 but the actual phase change is March 8 at 9.38am so no planting till the evening - in reality probably the 8th.

I did put myself down for the GC newsletter in the hope that I would be able to ask them about this but I haven't had a news letter yet!

I am just going for planting after the middle of the phase until I get a better handle on this. I'm sure GC know why they are putting up the info as they are but I'd like to understand more.

I don't think this should have any affect on the lunar calendar the cycle is still 29.6 days irrespective of whatever way we record our time passing.

I haven't helped, I know but hopefully I've clarified the confusion as I see it.

              • Hi March, I've looked at this on GC, lunar phase calendar and my NASA app. They all state different. I think GC are a day early. The lunar take the second day and NASA app take the first day. I think the Aussie thing states don't sow in first twelve hours as that is roughly their time ahead. I take the first day as it seems we can plant it. The bio cycle is the one where you shouldn't plant in the crossover period, from what I've read. Unless both now state this.
I get the GC newsletter but there's nothing on it reference contact, plus it shows only bio. We need a guaranteed synodic source.

As I say complicated so lots to write about. I'm pushed for time today (again) but, if you have time, look at these two pages Second Quarter Moon and Third Quarter Moon which I think explain what's happening on GC where they often have two lines for the phase of the moon eg March 7 is "full" and "waxing gibbous". I'll have a proper look later, I hope.

I really like this site, it explains things well it's just there's so much you can find info once and then never again!

I would have thought they were fruit and if you check the plants out on their web site they are down as fruit.

I can see that sweetcorn is an annual that produces above ground and it is also covered by the grains line in the notes but cucumber?

Can anyone with more experience/knowledge explain please?
These pages explain why grains come under leaves (as well as the cuccumber exception). These pages are deffinitely the place to look for synodic gardeners.

                    • Sown the last of my tomatoes. Thirty varieties and ninety toms plus seventy two from previous sowing. Some will be rejected and thrust upon the RSPCA for their plant stall fundraiser...phew!

                        • Yes Bins - just a few

Today I've sown a tray of Alpine Strawberries, peas in pots - Champion of England, Goldensweet Mangetout, Purple Flowered Russian and Clarke's Beltony Blue. Also sowed eight pots of Californian Sweet Bell Pepper. My benches are now "chocker"!
Tomorrow I'm hoping to get my peas and broadies planted up on the allotment which leaves me three tray room for roots, which are coming up for me.

Which would ideally be planted on the 9th or 10th to be in "full root mode"????

                              • Well it got to the tenth and I put in all my first and second early potatoes. I am itching to get in my maincrops too, which I thought I would plant on Good Friday, although they are just sitting in egg trays on my dining table (would be nice to see them go in)! I have sown parsnips, planted out leek seedlings, sown more leeks in modules and beetroot, having put out beetroot seedlings too. Have planted rhubarb crowns to get good roots, decided to dispense with getting them in on a leaf week. Put in horseradish thongs (thanks to a generous grape ) Have sown celeriac. Sowing carrots and spring onions today. It's been busy busy busy. How's everyone else?
