Added Crown Prince, Uchi Kiri Squash and Cosse Violette climbing beans to the list.

You know I have to say this as I been boring the pants off anyone that will listen if your not keen on runner beans or fancy an alternative with similar growing habits then its climbing french beans and I can safely say I probably won't grow Runner beans again and my parents are the same.

If I could only grow 6 things it would have to be French Beans, Garden Peas, Second Early Potatoes, Tomatoes, Broccoli and Carrots.

I want to try a few new things this year, now I have found my feet so to speak.

Need to find good varieties of Pak Choi, Choy Sum, Kai Lan so will be planting a few different types of each.

        also..
climbing french beans - cherokee trail of tears
        courgette - lebanese and cocozelle
squash - uchi kiri, crown prince, and some seed I got from Morocco last year french heirloom variety, very ugly!!
        cucumbers- japanese sushi types
toms - Supersweet 'Gardeners Delight, golden sunrise (my fave all time tomato!)
Pea - Champion of England (6ft tall) & yellow mange tout
onion - rijnsburger, japanese bunching and zebrune
chard - lots and lots... love the stuff!
Thai Basil - as much as possible, always running out at home!
Oriental greens - Komatsuna, pak choi, choy sum, tsoi tsim, tatsoi, mizuna, kai lan
        Death to all slugs!

          Swiss chard
          Climbing french beans
          Beetroot
          Radishes
          Carrots
          Tomatoes
Herbs of various sorts for us and our rabbits
          Spring onions
          Leeks
          Strawberries
          Turnips

All of these I can grow with relative ease at home in large containers. I should think my list would be different if and when I have an allotment space to grow in.

Last year, my first attempt, I grew spuds in containers, runner beans and toms outside. I had a good crop of runner beans, loads of toms but not many red ones LOL and okayish crop of spuds!

Greenhouse on order so looking at trying:

            Toms
            Cucs
            Peppers
            Chillies

Outdoors a new raise bed being built so in that onions, carrots and leeks.

A decent cabbage as my previous attempts are pitiful.

I want one that is the size of the one Alan T has on the front of one of his books - it's head sized! Mine are more like cricket balls !

No kohl rabi as no-one liked them ( not even the slugs) even though they grew very easily
              More rhubarb for crumbles
More shallots even though peeling them is a faff
Gave up on sweetcorn as the badgers eat it all.
              Gill

So long and thanks for all the fish.........

              I have a blog http://areafortyone.blogspot.co.uk

I will be trying all the usual things but my 'special' for this year is soya beans. I love them when they come with sushi and seem expensive to buy so going to give them a go.

Patty Pan summer squash. I forgot to sow seeds last year and ended up having to buy them from the local health food shop. I'm determined to get them in this year, lots of 'em!

grow what you like to eat, plus a couple of things you havent tried before, plus some things that the insects like, plus a few things that you like to look at.

Going to grow the new runner bean firestorm, some chinese broccoli kailaan, the new kohl rabi kossak (yum) plus all the obvious ones i grow every year.
I always try to find something different to grow each year, diversity is the name of the game.
