Ok, I've managed to find some of my JAs under the standing water from all the rain we've had.

I know I haven't managed to get them all though... will they all just grow/flower/get tubers next year automatically?

    Just try and stop them!!

Someone once told me that the only way to get rid of JA's is to move house Mine have been thriving on neglect for the past 5 years with no trouble so I reckon you'll be alright!

Excellent!! They have proved to be a brilliant weed suppressor, and look rather stunning (and taste lovely!!)

Sounds like it's going to be windy inside and out then Bren! I must have got all my JAs out the year before last, because none emerged this year. Must buy some more.

I'd love to grow some JAs. I love the flavour. We had a JA and hazlenut soup from the Riverford cookbook the other day and it was delicious!

I LOVE JAs, and they look so pretty too. Has anybody tried growing them in containers? If so, did it work, how much soil do they need, can I plant other stuff around them or do they just take over the world? At least I guess I couldn't loose them in a pot...

The problem i see about growing em in containers is the fact that they grow about 8 foot tall. I grow them round the edges of my beds next to the path.

That's a good point, I do remember them being massive from when I was a kid and my mum grew them in the garden.... Then on the other hand I do like a challenge,.... Does anybody know how deep their roots and tubers go?

I dug some up the other day and I'd say the tubers were down about a spade and a half.

Just dug up my JAs and they were just beneath the surface. I'd better have another dig around in case there are more lurking there.

Mine are around a spade below the surface, so with support I guess growing them in containers should be possible.

I had a good dig around and got about 3lb from one plant.
