confused about carrots

Thanks all, off tomorrow to get some value compost, apparently half price at local garden centre. Found a couple of bags of building sand behind the garage too (left by the previous owners) so it's all going on the beds tomorrow. Cheers!

I've never tested my soil's pH, ever. I found out what grows through trial and error: my sandy soil is great for carrots, but we are plagued by carrot root fly, it gets through the debris netting too, determined little boggers

I thought debris netting had to large a hole for carrots and it also has large tie holes every 4in for the cable ties to hold it to the scaffolding

You're right, but it's the best thing I have at the mo (I sewed up the large central holes on the sewing machine)


I'm saving up for enviromesh, but bills keep getting in the way

I used the large holes to make the net wider by joining two and three together with the cheap cable ties from the pound shop.The cable ties last a lot longer than tying string to each hole
