Okay I am a bit thick on this.

What are the ral advantages of grafting then, and does it have to be 2 specific plants or will any do?

Increased vigor, disease resistance, more tolerant to different conditions..

Just the rootstock, and then either a grafting clip or tape. Loads of info online, and vidoes on youtube

but i am assuming it has to be a specific root.

Also can you graft any plant onto it?

Tom the usual rootstock for Toms is Aegis. The toms from this plant are inedible but it is a very vigorous plant. By grafting another type of tom onto it the vigour of the root stock is given to the other plant with some very good results.

I have not grafted my own but grew a grafted plant two years ago, the speed at which it grew was fantastic as was the amount of fruit obtained.

Grafted peppers, chilli's cucumber and aubergine are some of the others available. If growing space is at a premium then this is an option to obtain bigger crops with the given space.

When I first got into gardening (cough, cough) i was young and daft. I once managed to graft a tomato onto a potato haulm (same family). The idea was to have toamtoes on the top and potatoes on the bottom!
It did work, but not as well as I'd hoped!

I've got some 'he-man' tomato root stock seeds [given to me as part of a different seed circle] and will be growing and grafting with them this year.

So, the question is - do I sow them on a root day or a fruit one; hmm......

This all looks very interesting and may just "trial" this myself on a few plants.

Where would I find seeds for pepper and aubergine rootstock?

Been reading a bit more online about this and all I can find is the tomato grafting seeds.

A couple of people gave said you can graft these onto peppers and aubs but surely there must be specific ones or am I chasing my own tail on this one
