When I received my Heritage Seed Library membership pack it came with a free packet of Mr Fearns Purple Podded French beans. Has anyone grown these before, and if so are they a good variety for eating the whole young pod or leaving for the actual beans? Reason I ask is that I grew a climbing French bean called Eva last year with the intention of using them for the pods but because I left them to long before harvesting I ended up using Most of them for the beans instead (which were quite nice in a sausage and bean casserole ).

I have some too and am intending to grow them mainly for fresh beans but will be saving seed from them. Will probably try some as dried beans the year afterwards though but won't really have enough to make it worthwhile with only 10 this year
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

This bean featured in a post some time ago: http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ety_20471.html
SarzWix, one of the Mods grew these so I expect you will get some input from her .
I haven't grown this variety, but have grown Purple Queen (dwarf) and Blauhilde (climbing) both purple podded which turn green on cooking and the flavour of both is first class.
