I cannot seem to be able to grow peppers or chillies I bought some seeds last year but never got any plants and also when i buy pepper plants i get no peppers or they die so how do I grow them from seed and from plugs? i got bhut jolokia and trinidad scorpion seeds

chilli's like the warm, are you growing them indoors or out?

this year I have gone for the "perfect" method, of using a heated propagator to produce the seedlings and then transplanted them to their own pots once strong.

but last year I just chucked a load of seeds in some soil in a pot and they still grew really well.

They do need to be kept well watered but not over watered, and never let the room get to cold they are in, they do not like frost!

The 2 varieties you mentioned do require a longer growing season than some others. To achieve this you ideally need to use a heated propogator to kickstart them

In Cumbria I think you'll need a greenhouse, whatever you try. For those very hots varieties they are still difficult to get a crop from (buy something like Apache for a quicker crop). The best tactic is to treat it as a 12 month + project, overwintering them in the house.

My pepper plant took ages. If it wasn't for the Indian Summer I would have only had one pepper to show the family. Will certainly be starting them earlier this year and giving them the best spot in the greenhouse as that was taken by the toms last year but the toms in the worst part grew just as well.

I used a mist sprayer every now and again as I read it's meant to help pollination. I also gave it the same feed as the toms weekly.

I'll throw my tuppence into the mix here. What everyone has said is right, but I have done something else this year and had success so far.

Like you I'm growing Bhut Jolokia amongst others, what I did to start with was put the seeds in a zip-lock bag with warm water, then place the bags in a flask of warm water to maintain the warmth. They are now in a heated propagator and I have 29 seedlings to show for my efforts in less than 3 weeks.

Yes CT I have heard peppers can make your eyes water if handled incorrectly.

But their real honest google them.

I've had Nigel's Outdoors ripen nicely on the lottie but am not growing this year as I prefer some of my indoor varieties and want to use the bed for something else.
