What a buzz.

I still get little butterflies in my stomach when I see tiny seedlings come through the soil.

Just checked on the chilis I sowed the other week and they are all up, the sweet potato has rooted, the bathroom window ledge has been taken over with trays of 3in onion seedlings.

I feel as if i've been growing for ages but 4yrs isn't very long in gardening years, I just hope I never lose the excitement, it's such a great feeling.

I'm with you Ananke on this. They're your own little "babies" that you have brought into this world and they grow and develop into adults under your care. I watch them emerge and unfold their first leaves with great excitement.
I'm also very happy when the time comes to turn "cannibal"!!

I'm not sure if it's excitement or if it's just relief that my seeds have germinated but there is definite buzz

I don't usually mind winter, but this year I can't wait for the weather to pick up just a little so I can get started. With no heated greenhouse and cats that knock off any windowsill plantings, I have to wait for at least my mini greenhouse to get above freezing. So impatient!

Every season has the same excitement which never diminishes. I'm sitting on my hands to stop me filling my windowsills just yet.

Flo, I have found one way to keep my interest up I am counting how many lettuce seeds I have left over from last year.

That should keep me busy for a while As I grow three different types

I've catelogued all my seeds and filled a calendar with proposed planting dates. Spent 6 hours sitting on the carpet surrounded by books and seeds. Odd how I find it so hard to concentrate at work, yet will happily pour over growing business without break.

OOh yes, and I read lots of different books and articles until I find an excuse somewhere to plant things far too early....must get a grip, but really really want to get started this year, and Feb seems so close! Know exactly what you mean Kaiya - work just gets in the way...and pays the bills I suppose!!....Have started a few chillis, peppers, and some sneaky toms....but know I should stop now!

In the Celtic calendar February 1st is "Imbolc" or "St Brigid's Day" and regarded as the first day of Spring/Light. It has lots of significances in terms of "purification" and early courtship and of course of "rebirth"; also celebrated in various forms and under various names in the Christian Church where it's known as Candlemas. In the St Brigid version she represents the growing light of the seasons that will bring power from the dark season of Winter. A simpler version is it's still light at 5 p.m.!

Right! Going to get all my seed packets out again now and shuffle them about a bit...is anyone planting anything interesting at the weekend? Then I can copy with a clean conscience!!....I'm thinking maybe leeks....and perhaps a few sneaky raddishes.....oh dear oh dear.....
