  • Best place to buy bare root trees? (Golden privet...)

    Hi all

I'm after some bare root golden privet saplings to replace an old overgrown conifer hedge in the next few months. I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for the best place to buy bare root trees, either on the internet or near Bristol? I'd like good quality privet that will last well, without bankrupting me to get them!

    Thank you.

Sorry to change the subject, but have you thought about an edible hedgerow instead, or as well as?

      Hi Paul

Not a problem! I was thinking more of a nice smelling hedge than a nice tasting hedge, but I'm open to suggestion... The hedge will be around 3m long, and in fairly damp soil and shade. I'd like to keep it thin and tidy - there's a conifer hedge there at the moment, and it's thick and unwieldly, so I intend to replace it.

      Thanks.

IMHO Privet smells disgusting, specially when it flowers.

Do you really need to replace the hedge with another hedge (e.g. is it a boundary)?

Ha! I love the smell of privet...

Having said that, no - it's not a boundary, the hedge is within my garden. However, it would provide privacy from the neighbours, as we can see into each others' gardens without it...

I can recommend Blackmore fruit tree nurseries. Cheers, Tony.

                  Thanks all.

I think I'll go with green (or even wild) privet, and get it from a local place so I can see what I'm getting
