What I pulled out of the ground had very healthy and strong roots still attached although it wasnt hard to pull up - there wasnt much of a shoot up top though. Starting to regret I pulled it up now.
The sets were bought from a well respected garden centre and the soil in the beds (30cm deep) is from reputable commercial sources. I hope with these factors in mind that it isnt white rot - I have garlic growing nearby and planning to put leeks in... might out of precaution plant the leeks in the adjacent bed.
