Help, is there something wrong with my apple tree?

Hi All,
I wonder if I can ask for some advice on apple trees? I went to my allotment today, (the first time in a few weeks).
I have a 4 year old apple tree, quite fit and healthy, except it has some green algae type thing on the main trunk. It looks a bit like the type of greening that goes on the greenhouse glass.
I just wondered if I need to worry, or if there is anything i shoule do?

yep, will do when I next go up there. Have just spent the night googling it. (how sad!) but can't seem to find anything quite like it.

Is it shaded? That's why you get green stuff on the gh.

If you look at trees in the wild, you'll see algae & moss growing on the north sides of their trunks.

Don't think there's need to worry tbh.
I see you are in Cumbria- (one of the damper parts of the UK )- moss ,lichen and algae all grow well in damp areas.
I get quite a lot of it on my trees ( we get damp winters generally)- and they seem perfectly fine.
It's supposed to be a sign of pure air isn't it????

Hi Two sheds, no it is very exposed but it is the north side that has the algae.

Hi, thanks, that is great if I dont need to worry. though I was thinking I ought to give them some maintainence, in a form of a winter wash type thing, if its not too late? I have three small trees on the allotment, and all have had no attention except for a bit of organic matter. I think I need to feed them and check for disease/aphids. One had some wierd white fluff all over it last year, with caterpillars enclosed in the fluff. The other one has some strange tiny circles on the bark.
