I am chitting my potatoes in the conservatory - 3 varieties, Home Guard, Rooster and Desiree and they are all one at a time starting to get wet and oozing a fizzy liquid then going very soft. Any idea what this is please and what I should do. The conservatory is bright and in sunshine although the ambient temperature is probably about 15 deg.

start again and dont chit them,it only shortens growing time,i stopped over 15 yrs ago and would not go back to chitting,i put mine in soil/tubs at least 4ins deep and let them get on with it,its the one thing that gave a good crop last year, with all the funny weather, and 4ins + to the top of tatties seems to work, and thats outside.....Last edited by BUFFS; 25-02-2012, 02:06 PM.
