7 rows of spinach, each row about 8' long and just under 50cms apart. I laid out old bamboo canes to mark each row and a plastic 18" (<46cms) ruler to space them. The first section has 2 rows of sprouted garlic and a row of carrot seeds in the middle. The next row will be broad beans, after that I don't know yet!
I'm doubt that the garlic/carrot combination is pure Gertrud but it felt right to me!

You, confuddled? Never! I've had a word with Gertrud and she puts her soft green waste on top of the spinach "paths" to rot down as sheet composting. Gertrud does have heap for woody waste as well and this will be spread around established plants.

It's almost beginning to sound as if Gertrud is your alter ego VC.....a scary thought looking at the pictures in the book

Oh Gosh, sorry VC....I finally found it was Snadger's Miss Stout that does the mulching, so quickly deleted my then pointless post. Didn't realise you'd replied. Sorry xx

I don't know Di, you're doing your very best to make me look like an idiot. I had to wake Gertrud to ask her - she was having a little dose after her glass of Schnapps.

I wonder if it was spinach? A TA at the school disco was saying you can make garlic vodka, apparently it's rank!

Spinapps? Gertrud has a recipe for Sloe juice - very good with Sauerkraut salad, she says!

Google it - We're too late! EXCEPT it's not a drink. Where are the winemakers - we need one quickly!

                      Drat - that's been done too http://www.honeycreek.us/recipes/spinach.php

The only spinach vodkas I can find are for a sauce, not drink.

Oh, that's because I googled vodka and not schnaps

Not to worry, I've not checked my lotto numbers yet

                                Ok.

I've decided on my crops but I'm not happy about a couple of Cs...Parnips and leeks are noted as Cs but there is no way you get 3 crops of these each year. I'm going to go with them as a C as I'm sure it's just me but I'm not happy!

                                Anyway - my rows are:
                                A C B C A C B C
With mustard in between and at each end.

                                And the crops go:
A - Toms with Runner Beans
                                C - Beetroot and lettuce
B - Peas and Dwarf French beans [or cabbage and celeriac if I get my celeriac sorted in time]
C - Parsnips and Leeks [grrrr]
A - Cuces, late cabbage and courgettes
                                C - Carrots and Onions
B - DFB and peas again
                                C - Beetroot and Lettuce
