I wasn't sure where I should post this up, so please feel free to move it if there's a more appropriate forum section.

My current garden layout is shown in the first picture. I've omitted to include the piles of junk that need taking to the tip and the fact that the lawn looks more like a muddy bog after the severe trampling it's received over the last few days.
The shed is an old 10'x7' vehicle box body. The square with 'leaf mold' on it is a wheelie bin full of last Autumn's deciduous leaves which, hopefully, will be next year's potato grow-medium. The greenhouse is roughly 8'4"x6'4" and, hopefully (again), will be full of life in a couple of months, though right now it's full of tubs of compost and lots of little seeds



The future plans include (in this order) setting up the potato sacks, installing a water butt and system to collect rain from the shed roof, building a shallow raised bed for lettuce, cabbage and broccoli, and adding more paving to avoid trampling over what bit of grass will be left. The raised bed and paving may well be jobs for next winter.

That's a big shed in proportion to your growing area. I'm just jealous.

Where's your compost bin going? You can't just have leaves you know. Not if you want us to take you seriously

It looks good. Do you need a lawn area? I find them high maintenance. My lawn wasn't up to much so I replaced it with wood chippings. It means I can grow things in containers and move them about if I want to. Also when you have friends and family round for BBQs and so on the dirt doesn't get trecked in and out of the house. If you want a path you can then dot some slabs around or make a gravel path. As a small female type of person I find gravel easier to work with than paving slabs and it means I haven't got to wait for OH to give me a hand, I can just get on with it myself.

I love planning things. If I could actually execute half the plans I have I'd be a happy woman.

Welcome to the vine Pa, difficult to visualize with no measurements but I would be tempted if poss to move the shed nearer the GH with a waterbutt in between and collect rain from the shed and the GH. If the grass is in such poor nick, either re-turf or just use the rest of the garden for more beds.

BM don't put him off. That sounds like way too much work to me. I mean you've got to take everything out of the shed and keep it safe and dry while preparing new foundations for where you're moving it to. Shed is bigger than greenhouse so would shade it at some point in the day and you don't want that. Plus who knows what lies beneath the shed in it's current position?

Donnakebab... I no doubt will end up with a compost bin of some kind and would probably site it at the top end of the path on the right...time to redo my Photoshop plan. I don't need a lawn and would consider gravelling the spare area on the left, which would negate the need for the additional path on the left leading to the shed and water/leaves.

Bigmally...the overall garden size is 24'6"x15'6", minus the square on the bottom right hand corner which forms part of the path behind the flat, the shed and greenhouse dimensions are in the opening post, the raised bed would be around 8'x5'6" but could be made slightly wider, however, I do need to consider my access to the shed with mountain bikes and whitewater kayaks. The shed cannot be moved, it's very heavy and took an age to put there in the first place, I simply have to work around it. I don't think I'd bother re-turfing, it's just more to mow and Donnakebab's idea of gravel appeals more to me. It is tempting to make the raised bed wider, at least the top half anyway.

I've made so many plans to do stuff to our house and garden over the years but it never happens because it usually involves getting OH to give me a hand. So now I plan what I think I can cope with myself. I'm currently planning how to embrace the lack of a propper kitchen (old one ripped out for replacement 10 years ago) by making it look shabby-funky-bohemian.

Don't make it too wide or you wont be able to reach the middle without standing in it. I'm 5'1'' and I can only comfortably manage a bed 4' wide.

That's ok, I'll use a sky-hook and some abseiling equipment

Seriously though, that's a good point, I'll bear it in mind when the time comes to build it.
