hi all, hope this hasn't been covered already but just wanted to know if anyone has tried the sweetcorn growing kits that I've seen in one of the gardening catalogues, also if anyone has tried a climbing courgette? I've got a lottie but I also like to fill up my front garden which I can only do in containers-hence the question!

Hi raine
I had wonderful success last year with outdoor climbing courgettes...Black Forest F1 Hybrid from Thompson & Morgan.
I used a tall bamboo wigwam for each plant & tied them on as needed & eventually had to do a tie in to a nearby tree branch too.
They produced excellent courgettes all season & carried on long after the sprawlers had given up.
I picked them when they were between 4" and 6" and got a 1st prize at the local Garden Show.
I'll definately be growing them again & again.

Hi hollychap
I had them up a tripod about 4ft and then along a string approx another 18inches then up another 12 inches to the tree branch.
They got a bit thin/worn in places but I wrapped 'em with parcel tape & they lasted the season just fine.
As you can probably guess, the height surprised me and my response was was a bit Heath-Robinsonish.
I think I'll start off with a 6ft Bamboo tripod this year or maybe a trellis I can go up and along several times?

thanks for the replies-Serico I will definitely try the link and thanks to those who suggested a variety for the climbing courgette.
The sweetcorn kit I have seen (but typically me, can't remember where it is) is the seeds plus the containers and I was quite interested because I was unsure of how big the containers would have to be-but now I have a rough guess-can anyone let me know the variety they have used?
thanks
