  • Late Again

Yet again I am late getting started
Am I too late to start from seed tomatoes and chillies?

In b+q they have small pots of chilli and tomatoes for 98pence each or 6 for £5.
They were very small pots about inch in diameter. And they did look a bit forlorn.

I don't think so. I didn't do mine last year until about this time and I got quite a few tomatoes by the end of the season. I have started my toms, peppers and aubergines but I am planning on sowing a few more later. What's the worst that can happen.

I shouldn't worry too much, I didn't sow my tomatoes till nearly may and still got a decent crop

Only sowed my chilli and tomato seeds last Saturday so there's still plenty of time

Instead of chatting, get sowing! And while you're about it, sow some for me because I've only sown a few experimental ones so far.

You do need to get chillies underway pretty sharpish as they benefit from a long season but you will still be fine. As for toms, I've only sown half a dozen, the rest will be done in about a week or so, I find if you do them any earlier you end up with huge plants with nowhere to put them as it's too early to plant out until mid May.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Steve I have some tom's in the varieties I have grown before so know I can cheat a little. The new (to me) varieties won't be going in till next weekend.

As others have said get you chillies in this weekend if you can.

I'll drag a bag of compost into the lounge whilst watching the rugby tomorrow afternoon.
BH will be out, she going to the theatre.
