corn roots

Hello.
A fellow allotment holder grows corn in his tunnel with outstanding results.
And I would love to try this out.
Only problem is I have really bad perennial? Weeds.
So when I built the tunnel, I covered the floor with weed suppresant.
I am at present in the second year, and I believe it should be safe after 3-5 years.

Any way, let's get to the point

If I was going to grow corn in a pot, how much space will the roots need??

Do you think I could get away with using one of those 125ltr bags of compost as a grow bag?
If so... How many plants could I fit in to one??

I have tried to use google, but my phone is just so slowwwww today

Explain - do you mean weed suppressant as in a black material or you used weed killer?

We have the hen's corn growing in our gravel. I'm always pulling the stuff up.

I am using heavy duty black on the role sheet stuff (can't remember the name of it)
For the weed suppressant.
And am meaning corn on the cob corn.
But that's a good idea to crow my chickens treats

couple of things spring to mind, why not make small "X" cuts in plastic and grow through that... and secondly, corn's wind pollinated.....

Aah - then I'd cut holes in it. but then again I'd not grow it indoors at all - far too many other things [and as RT says - it's wind pollinated so you would have to shake it regularly once the top grows].

Why don't you dig the perennial weeds out and use the polytunnel soil to grow in - seems a shame to not use it for a few years?

Its not a problem.
I have 2 big raised beds in their plus loads of other space.
I don't think the soil will be fertile enough to plant direct at the moment.
I had to move a lot of soil to make it level for the erection of the tunnel.

When it comes to removing the sheeting,
I have about a ton of horse manure in a pile rotting.
Plus all of the compost in the raised beds
