Does anyone know where I can get the steel mesh trays that serve as shelves on plastic greenhouses?

Not specifically, but if they aren't available could you buy fencing mesh instead and bend the ends over? Or chicken wire attached with cable ties (as I think chicken wire would sag if used alone).

Ive been looking around for an equvalent material, but there always too flimsy when you load em up with seedlings in wet compost

I know it's not of much use to you Davy, but I've got loads. They were left with me when the blowaways blew away! I've not seen them advertised separately, but they do the covers in Wilkinsons on line, so maybe they'd do the shelves? Hope you find some.

tried wilkos, they dont do them. it seems a tad expensive just to buy the complete blowaway just to get 4 shelves

You could always try Freecycle. People will be tidy up their sheds and gardens so the will be many wrecked blowaways around I'm sure.

Can you rest a couple of planks across instead of mesh?

You could buy some square section 1/2" or 1" galvanized wire mesh (try builder's merchants or Garden Centres) and take it to your local fabricator, try the trading estate or business park. Ten minutes on their bend bars to turn up the sides (to your dimentions) and there you are. Cheers, Tony.
