  • The first 'cuckoo' this year?

Well, not really a cuckoo, but this is the first 'rip off' product aimed at the unsuspecting newbies to grow your own.

Surely, this is overpriced. How many would you get from one packet of seeds and what profit will be made on it? We Grapes could make a fortune.

Garden centres will soon be selling 'strips' (1/4 trays) of carrot and radish seedlings which are nigh on impossible to get a crop from - I also saw an 8" pot with one potato growing in it for £4.95 last year - it makes my blood boil.

Keep your eyes open and post any others you see.
Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you are probably right.

Good news is that no one has placed a bid - lets hope it stays that way, and then the "cuckoo controller" will have to pay the insert fee anyway <evil grin>

If you look at the reviews you'll see that someone has already bought a Perpetual spinach plant for £1.99 and the postage is £2.99! They must be cuckoo!

£5 for one tiny plant that might or might not make it. They must be totally cuckoo.

            They look awful - but a "bargain" at £3.99 for 3 + £1.99 postage!

“There is nothing in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and he who considers price only is that man's lawful prey.”
              John Ruskin 1819-1900

I would like to re-write that quote...

“There is nothing in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little dearer, and he/she who doesn't bother to shop around and do his/her due diligence is that man's lawful prey.”

I mean, if you are able to make a purchase on ebay then you have access to the interweb, in which case you have access to a wealth of information (it isn't referred to as the 'information super-highway' for nothing) so there's no excuse to pay over the odds for something.

I do, however, agree that it is a rip-off but it takes two to tango. You could only rip me off if I foolishly allowed you to, unless you deliberately deceived me i.e. offer a packet of 500 seeds, knowing that no-one would ever count them, but only put 400 in the packet.

Would anyone like to buy a tomato plant? If so, I'll pop a seed costing....we don't have currency small enough, so let's call it nothing...into about 3p worth of compost. I'll then add the cost of a plastic pot, so that's another 10p, so....erm....you can have it for a fiver, delivered too at that price. Any takers?

I don't hold out much hope for those plants now, let alone after 8 to 10 days awaiting delivery!

Not quite the same mark up, but aren't these the same as those available in a well known £shop?
