  • Unbelievable or is it?

I was turning over the compost heap today, about 4' cube. Was happily forking away when I hit something hard, pulled the fork out and there was a (part) Rhubarb crown stuck to the fork with 6 stalks on it and about a dozen healthy buds. Its been dumped for about 3 years, I couldn't believe it.....Goes to prove that you cannot kill Rhubarb.

Oh yes you can, BM - I've tried to grow rhubarb for the last two years and both times it rotted away. I'm trying again this year

Mind you, don't you live in (or near) the famous Rhubarb triangle in Leeds?

Same thing happened to me - I chucked what I thought was a dead crown on my heap, and it came back a few months later. It is now very healthy

As I've said before, I dig some out of my flower bed every year and every year - back it comes. You must have to be a really hard case to kill rhubarb

I'm doing rhubarb this year and started it in a pot with view to putting it in a massive planter that dowsn't move in the garden becuase I was told that it was the most simple plant to grow!

                      fingers crossed it plays ball!

I just bought a new one a few days ago, after the one on the plot didn't put out a single leaf last year after I moved it, and I couldn't even find the roots when I dug up around the patch.

Went to plant it out, and I'll give you three guesses what I saw happily poking out leaves....

I read that it needed splitting over winter ... the rest is history!
