PSB regrowing

Hi
I grew PSB last year - purchased as small plants then planted in tubs. I chopped the stems down late last year to about 6 inches but never quite got round to emptying the tubs & throwing them out. Now the old stubs have resprouted and have lots of new broccoli heads. Is this new broccoli edible ? I am a complete beginner at this and can find no reference to second crops anywhere ?

Yup, I read about the fact you could cut it down to a stump and expect re-growth so I did it one year and the sprouts were perfectly tasty. Only argument against doing this as far as I can make out is that by keeping the plant going and not sowing new ones in a new bed is that you risk a bit of club root. Perfectly edible stuff though.

Of course!

It's the same as the previous broccoli ~ you get the same effect (regrowth) with cabbages too, also with leeks & spring onions, and probably other stuff too

i've trid last year to grow them an italian variety called cime di rapa but i always had very long stems and they were a bit woody as well... i grow them in pot and i will try again this year.. lucky you that have 2 cutting...
