All this fine weather

Just wondering how this freak summer-like weather is affecting people's plans? It looks set to continue well into next week. Are you thinking of hardening off stuff like toms earlier than usual? Sowing anything earlier than usual? Half my brain is saying don't be fooled. The other half is saying it's an opportunity to get ahead. Have dwarf french beans in root trainers, second true leaves coming out and thinking I might plant some out in the tunnel. What you think?

Every year has it's quota of freaky weather, sometimes warm early and sometimes cold late. I stick to what works best for me based on experience, sometimes I could get away with earlier sowing, sometimes later works but there is usually a best average time for main sowings. That said, it's often worth risking a few early ones (with back ups from normal time sowings), especially if you have a tunnel but bear in mind you might lose them as I'm expecting a cold snap to follow on soon . Re beans, as I mentioned in another post, I have often sown some dwarf Frenchies for forcing early and they're usually in the tunnel by now - not done it this year but I think it's well worth a few seeds.

i was just wondering the same things... today i took all the fleece off the fruit tree but i think they will be up again... i hope not.. i don't mind if the weather will be cooler but i hope we dont have any frost coming because i have plenty seedling and i don't know where to put them inside the house....

I have started to take the lids of things in the greenhouse, aside from that, no I won't be taking unnecessary risks. April was unseasonably warm
Last year with May a washout, if you recall.

I'm playing it cautious and sticking to the seed packets. If things get big they'll go into the cold frame... might stick a few chunkers on the plot if they look really hardy, but will be ready with the fleece/ polythene just in case.

I don't know about your area but the long range for here is forecasting below average temps for the first couple of weeks in April, so be careful I'm still sitting on my hands a lot of the time!

No, we are all eager to get going and this lovely weather just makes us all want to sow and plant stuff too early! But I'm going to wait, our British weather is so unpredictable. Perhaps I'm too much of the "better safe than sorry" gang.

lots of things growing and doing well thus far,but still to early for beans/squashes,and main crop potato,not long to go now though,also some things are sown now and again later anyway,worth risking a few seeds i would say,I also still have lots in the freezer's,

No, simply because there is ALWAYS a frost in early April here, regardless of how many sunny days we have in March

It's making me panic whenever I'm outside. The sun is beating down, blue sky, little breeze... and my tomatoes are still germinating. Makes me feel 3 months behind, but really the weather is just (temporarily) 3 months ahead!

Oh so sorry to hear that Jamesy. I haven't had to scrape that car since early Feb and like so many of us gardeners I am wanting to get plants going.

i usually take the forecast with a pinch of salt as in my opinion they talk rubbish. I make notes from previous years and usually round here the weather the fairly predictable.

Today I have every window, door and vent open on the green house and it ain't even April.

The Hi-Lo in the GH is varying from 24` in the day to 3` at night which is not good for plants. I have sown some early seeds which I am prepared to loose but am still holding off on my main sowings.

I think this year will go one of two ways (a) the weather will be kind and we will have a great year. (b) the weather will break and catch a good few out giving the unwary a bad year.
