I've already sown just about every seed I intend to and, despite already having had night-time lows of 1°C, everything seems to be doing well. Of course this could be a big mistake but the forecast for next week is showing nothing below 1°C and, although 'they' do say it will be generally much cooler than this week, it's not forecast to be any cooler than when I sowed the seeds.

What will be, will be. I'm one of those people who reads every bit of advice out there, then does his own thing.

So far, 3 out of 4 tomato seeds which I sowed direct to a large pot in an unheated greenhouse have germinated and popped their little heads into the air.

None of the above is offered as advice, it's just my (very limited) experience.

What happened to the Middle Way? It'll be a mediocre year for all and sundry....
I'm sticking with my preferred option (a) - which do you prefer?

I would like option (d) lashing down with rain over night and warm & dry during the day.

can I prefer gentle rain at night, so it doesn't do any damage, and then nicely warm during the day...but regularly...............I know it's a lot to ask

Got sunburnt arms and chest today after spending all afternoon at the table, where I potted on seventy tomato plants. Spent all morning in the garden planting hellebores, muscari, honeysuckles, then all afternoon spent in and out of the greenhouse. Guess that's my vitamin D for the day

                Is that option (e) Thelma?
Sounds good, if I could add that the days must be reliably warm, no surprise downpours when I'm planning an outdoor activity - and that goes for evenings too. So rain between midnight and 6 am and warm and dry for the rest of the day = Option (f)!

If you don't ask, you don't get!
Or put another way, If you don't ask for what you want, you get what others think you want!
So I'm asking... Option (f) please!

Hot bath and some Lizzy Arden has cooled it down. Yes, it's a private garden but I did have my clothes on - dirty minded VC

Your definition of "chest" is clearly different to mine!
Changing subject ever so slightly, does anyone remember that fabric that you could get a tan through whilst wearing it? Undoubtedly banned now.

Yes that the stuff! Loved all the things you can buy to "tan thru" - especially the watch straps so no unsightly watch strap white mark - BUT what about the big circular white mark from your watch? D'oh!

Cold overnight here and a frost but still got seedlings germinating in the unheated greenhouse. Fennel this morning has come through. Another one to take back to school as this one was one of the teacher's requests. I think try things early but stick to usual sowing times for main sowings so that you don't lose the lot - is my advice. Hedge your bets....
