Hi all...

This is my first post on the forum and also my first year growing anything

I've got some questions, some might sound silly?

I've got an area that I could dig over (as well as the three areas I've already started working on), we buried our late cat there last July about a foot and a half down - any idea how long a cat takes to decompose?

I've got some garlic cloves that I planted 6 weeks ago. Some are currently about 20cm tall. One of them looks as if it has sellotape wrapped round it? Can I remove this or would it damage the plant? I have added a picture of this.

I'm sure I will come back with some more questions.

Welcome to the vine GC, I would imagine your cat will be well er, rot, er decomp, er gone by now.....as for the sellotape on your Garlic, it's a new one on me but I'd be tempted to try and slide it off. Not sure what damage it will do to the bulb, if any.

I don't think it's sellotape, I think it's part of the bulb casing. Try splitting it with a sharp blade. Don't know about the cat though.

Cheers, guessed it wasn't actually sellotape, just looked like it. This is my tallest clove, I went a bit mad and planted approx 40, so didn't want to do any damage.

I think I'd leave the "sellotape" on the garlic, unless it goes dry and papery in which case I would slip it off. As for planting over the cat, I think for this year I'd grow something fairly shallow rooting.

Yes your cat will be there a while longer - my only worry would be foxes digging!

So leave well alone - cat and garlic - is my advice!

I do, but not that much - I ordered two bulbs of solent white, didn't expect that much and didn't know what to expect! The OH doesn't have any idea of what to cook with it, so I'm trying to convince her we could use it as a wedding favour

I've taken the tape like thing off, appears to be what was suggested - part of the casing, wasn't sure if it was something that naturally appeared so wanted to ask before removing!

Re the cat, I'll leave that area alone for now, maybe next year!

I'm sure we'll end up adding it to most things ust so long as I have enough to sow for next year
