Mexican Gerkins - anyone grown these

I'm a relative veggie virgin living in South Oxfordshire.
I went to the Edible Garden show and was seduced by James Wong into considering growing these Mexican Gerkins outdoors... so I've ordered the seeds and picked a spot outside the patio doors.


Has anyone else had experiance with these - do they need any special care - or are they really as easy as James claims?

No, dead easy - same as any other cuke, don't let them dry out and plenty of sun.

Ha!...I saw him too and not only bought these cucamelon seeds but some Yacon/Peruvian ground apple tubers...fascinating!...The mexican gherkin seeds are tiny, more like tom seeds...but I believe its as Zazen says above!...good luck!

The seeds haven't arrived yet so it'll be interesting seeing how they do.
And yes - I bought some tubers of New Zealand yam - he's got a lot to answer for.....

Heirloom? Not sure solar. I'll have a look when the seeds arrive.......(waits impatiently!!)

I believe they are on about keeping the seeds from their crop to grow next year.

That's 'open pollinated' - hence asking the question as disregarding something because it isn't heirloom [whatever that means] is discounting lots of good veg that are OP and can be saved from.
