Anyone else trying out the purple mange tout?

As a massive fan of purple (my favourite colour by far) I was already excited to try purple sweet peppers and purple chillis but then I discoverd Thompson and Morgan have now created a purple mange tout.

Anyone else trying it? I planted 12 seeds yesterday and am very excited. My mum wants some as well so I'll have to plant some more tomorrow for her.

Sorry to say, although easy to see in the leaves, the peas were nothing special. But the pods do make a great wine ! ! ! Cheers, Tony.

I grew purple podded peas last year- not mangetout- which tasted nice, and were very pretty. Thought about trying the mangetout as well- I'd be interested to get a review later

I've grown purple podded peas, and eaten them as mange tout: pretty, but not that nice

Yep, am shiraz-ing. Have some transplanted-and therein likely to meet their maker with cold if I don't cover over-and have modularised some more a few days ago. Currently the transplanted ones have a lovely purple tinge to them. I rather like the purple-ness of the pod and fancied an experiment.

yep, giving these a go this year - grew some normal ones last year I've no idea what variety and wish i could remember as they were prolific, hoping these are the same...

Not grown the mange tout (my faves are the golden lemon ones) but have grown proper purple peas in the past, tbh wasn't that impressed with the ones I had as I found that they were a bit mealy and not as nice as some other types but am sure there are better ones.

I'm growing them too - last year I grew normal mangetout, but because of the resultant thicket of pea plants had trouble finding them. That is the only reason I've gone for purple this year!

They look like they are easier to find and pick than the regular green ones which turn into giant mange tout very quickly if you miss them.

I've ordered some for the school garden. Growing up a frame with Goldensweet mangetout (yellow) ought to look fantastic, and will hopefully inspire the kids to eat them

I'm growing peas for the first time this year and am trying shiraz mange tout and early onward. Chitted peas as per Two Sheds advice and sowed at the end of Feb. Growing well at the moment so hopefully will get to try them by the end of May

I'm also trying these this year, again the only reason is that they are easy to see, yellow ones next year me thinks.

im not growing purple mangetout, im growing purple peas tho, which i suppose i could pick as mangetout!

I didn't realise they did yellow ones. I'll have to get some of them next year.
