If I plant asparagus this March is next March its 1st or second year. The spears are growing so I think this is its first year and next year its 2nd year. Or am I just FIK

I believe this is it's first year, next year is it's second year. One of mine is a special case as it didn't grow last year so I'm counting this year as it's first year, but otherwise if it grows, it counts as a year.Proud member of the Nutters Club.

I'm assuming FIK equals thick, but don't know. I would say the first year is the first year it starts to throw up a harvest after planting, but you are not supposed to cut any at that point. If you started counting from next March, that would make this year 0. Can't be right - so this is year 1.
As for FIK, I can think of lots of options but they're not for here!!Comment
