  • help i need space... what leave outside

    hi everyone..
i think this is the question that a lot of new GYOer ask... i runing out of space in my kitchen and everywhere else in the house and i bought a garden shelfs unit ( kind a 4 shelfs blowaway without a cover...) and i put my plants on there in the kitchen but now i have more seedling to transplant soon and i don't know what to do... i check the temperature in my blowaway and is never been under 4c so i was wondering can i put something in there over night? i know tomatoes, peppers and squash no way but can i leave french marigold, nasturtium, oregano, rosmary, thyme, mint and sage in there overnight?
all of them are in 3'' pots and are about 1 and half months old....
    thanks for the help

You can with the frost hardies, but you need to harden them off first: put them outside during nice days (not in a hailstorm, like I did this week), back indoors at night. Do this for a week or 10 days, then they'll be OK outside all the time

French marigolds & nasturtium are not frost hardy, so they can't stay outside at night until after your last frost has passed

My nasturtium are already out, but they are hardened off and semi sheltered. Same with pot marigolds (English, not French). Mint is fine. Sage and rosemary will need hardening off.

can you make a cold frame or similar? you only need a few bricks or something to make a space between the floor and a pane of glass or a window or sheet of poly or something....Insulate the floor if it's concrete with a bit of bubblewrap or some newspaper and you can leave most of the herbs out there [not the oregano I don't think....]

sorry guys i just realized that when i said outside i mean leave them in my blowaway at night instead to bring them in at night..... i always put my pots in there in the morning (9 am) and put them back in the kitchen in afternoon (5pm.. considered that i work in the restaurant till 10pm and more) i have 3 blowaway in the garden so 12 shelves all together and in my kitchen only 4 shelves to use for the pots...i have 8 gravel tray where i put 11 3'' pots each but i have another 20 pots that i want to move them in the morning in the blowaway from my windowsill so i can pot the other seedling that are still wait in the seed tray... i know i sow to much but is like a drug and everytime i see the seeds box i put some in a seed tray... then i pick the best one and all the rest of the plants i will give them to friends or give them to my OH for the playgroup that she work...
