Tomatogeddon!

Oh bugger. Dozed off last night before I'd got round to bringing the tomato and squash seedlings in from the blowaway. Jack Frost had paid a visit in the night and didn't leave anything alive.

Embarassingly this is the second time that's happened this year. I actually thought they were fine when I peered through the useless plastic cover at them this morning as they were all standing up perky as anything. Only when I picked one up did I realise they were only standing up because they were frozen solid.

Anyone else here as stupid as me?

Oh yes indeedie!!!!

We lost over 30 chilli seedlings a couple of weeks back.
Just left them outside on the table all night- absolutely deaded by the time we realised!

Funny thing is that we'd asked a couple of friends who are very new to gardening to look after them whilst we were in the UK and they were worried to death they'd kill them.
They were so proud of themselves when we collected them- all looking very healthy!
3 days back with us and we'd killed the lot!

Just on the of chance that it was only the tomato roots that were damaged. Cut of the leaders and pop them in a bottle of water on a window sill for a week you may just save them.

This is a Tumbler I had to rescue last year.

You are nice - mistakes happen to everyone. If both of you were nearer I would share my spares.

I'm so protective with my plants that I put a thermometer in the blowaway and I don't put them back outside if the temp doesn't go at least 10c in the morning. If is colder I put my 4 shelves unit in the back bedroom where is a south east face window to get a bit of light. I will be very upset if I loose mine. Let's touch wood that I will not forget to bring them inside

I potted up some tomato plants at the weekend, left some outside - I forgot them even though, luckily, I brought the rest inside.

You could sow more, and maybe buy a few plants to speed things up a bit.

I lost some tomatoes that were in the gh ........They are all under a fleece tent now and that's where they are staying . My chillies and aubs are in the conservatory and to play safe they have a fleece blanket propped up over milk bottles which are filled with water to keep them sturdy. Have noticed that the water warms up during the day and then acts like hottle bottles at night

Right, had another sowing session last night. These ones are staying indoors! Think I may buy a couple of tom plants though, just so I have something to put in my salad before August...

The good thing about buying a few plants is that you can pot on the elbows when you've pinched them out. Saves weeks of growing time!
