    Was looking at a way to.............

    ..............harden off my brasicas without pigeons decimating them .........

    Another use for a dog crate!

    I have another bigger one of these which I'll probably use in situ!

    Brilliant idea Snadge, I think my son's got one that his dog has grown out of so I'll ask him for it. I don't have any pigeon problems (luckily), but it will make a brilliant frame. Ta.

          ............and yet another hardening off device!

          This was apparently an indoor rabbit hutch, the bottom part of which is presently holding my chrysanths for cuttings in the greenhouse.

              I used an old budgie cage that I found somewhere - binned because it had a broken bottom (not the budgie).

                  Inspired idea! I had already done the reverse - kept a pigeon squab in a dog crate. Now I can use it to keep them out! Will also work to keep my cats off the plants too. Or I could cover it in polythyene and put toms in it like a modified zazen frame...

                  May be worth oiling it or something as I have noticed mine has started to rust.

                      Actually, I do use inverted wire hanging baskets to protect seedlings in the flower border or new lettuce seedlings. Cheap enought from the car boot or off skips.

                            That's a great idea, Unca Snadge! For all you eBayers, do a local search for crate, you can often get a bargain - I've bought three over the last two years, one for as little as a fiver, and it was almost brand new! They have so many uses!
