Have only managed a few days away at a time, but have taken the plunge and booked a week in Wales in August. I just know i shall be werreting and worrying about my veggies while away as i have no one to water them. Having said that,i will try very hard to plan as much as possible to prevent monumental damage happening, at least, that which is within my ability to do ie, setting up watering/irrigation.

Most of our holidays involve me taking my son to see family in France and as OH is not keen on big family gatherings, he is more than happy to have the 'we can't leave the plot at this time of year' excuse to fall back on. If we do go away all together, it's usually only for a few days and we have a very good friend who is more than happy to help us out with the plot and cats.

we usually take a longer "exotic" holiday over Christmas when the weather in the UK is cold and miserable. Summer months in the UK we sometime to stretch to week or long weekend. We are lucky with our neighnours who are happy to water tomatoes in exchange for helping themselves to anything ripe - works in exchange for us feeding their chickens - seems uneven - the hens practically guarantee 3 eggs a day where as the ripening of tomatoes isn't so ordered! The allotment has to look after itself so there's usually a marrow sized courgette to look forward to on our return!

We've just come back from our annual holiday of a month in Thailand ( too too hot! ) and visited the lottie for first time today, and was amazed at how little had changed over the past month, only the weeds seem to have got any bigger!! Next year we'll be going in March instead so easier to catch up, seems this year though I'm no worse off than many because of the awful weather. Still need to plant toms, cukes, courgettes, squash etc. Most of my neighbours are not much farther along surprisingly.Death to all slugs!

October half term, because by then the prices are cheaper, the veggies are harvested in the main, it's a shorter break and if we have an Indian Summer it will be a miracleLook deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein

Well, we don't do exotic hols or those involving anything other than a car and a tent (or at most a rented cottage), so going over winter isn't a possibility! (no way are we driving to spain etc!)
We do, however, have a cat sitter who we pay to come in and feed the cat (doh!) and who we like and trust - she isn't a gardener, but will water stuff in pots and tubs and can even be bullied into picking rasps and beans.....If the river hasn't reached the top of your step, DON'T PANIC!

We go away at the end of August. Last year wasn't too bad, didn't have that much stuff planted outside in the ground as we had only just got our lotty. However, this year it'll be crammed full of stuff and I'm filled with dread at the thought of coming back to dead things or slug eaten veggies. Will have to get a plan of action sorted ASAP !! : 0
