I use an old shoe box (Reebok) with odd bits of cardboard labelled as dividers. I index alphabetically per vegetable type e.g. brassicas and the same within the type, within the type e.g. cabbage the cauliflower.

    Don't need anything fancy.

I too spent ages trying to find a good seed packet container, and decided to use wooden drawers from the Swedish shop..... I then bought "dividers" to write the months the seeds should be planted in on, and had one drawer per raised bed so all the seeds for that bed were together.

      How organised does that sound?

It lasted one season before all the seed packets ended up muddled together in a basket which I can easily carry out to the garden.....

      Good luck!

3 50 L 'really useful boxes' for my squashes, french beans and peas [one each].
1 80 L storage box for general seeds
1 80 L storage box for general beans and peas that is being touted round schools at the minute
1 80 L storage box just for the schools seeds
1 large purple trug for the Virtual Seed Parcel which gets touted round any meets that I am going on...including seed swaps.

1 small Burgin and Ball seed box for the ones that Mr Z chooses to grow so that I don't give them away to anyone

1 lovely wooden tray given to me by Mr VVG - made by his fair hands - which is currently used for 'to sow this weekend' packets [a thing of beauty if I may say so].

1 small shoe box for the flowers and herbs that need sowing.

And on top of that - about 30 trays of seeds from seed saving activities that hold seeds that are drying out - in envelopes and in paper bags. I can have up to 50 of these during Autumn as the seed saving goes slightly barmy.

I have a very big cupboard for all these!

Is this why you don't have space for your average collection of saucepans?

No - different room. Wouldn't keep saucepans in the dining room! That's crazy talk.

I have a shoe box and a couple of washing tablet boxes. I started off sorting them into the months they should be planted and then I tried to sort them into plant families too so I knew which bed they were going to be planted. After that it all got a bit mixed up and now I have to do a rummage to find what I'm looking for. In the last few days I have developed a system whereby I select what needs to be planted within the next couple of weeks and make time to do it (as in forget the washing up and the ironing as food is more important). Have yet to devise a system that can create space at the same time...like a tardis.

It's all good fun though and while I'm rummaging I have ideas and thoughts.

Think my seeds are at the allotment? Think they might be in the top drawer of a small chest of drawers in the shed........................but I aint sure?

I've got a little red tin seed stasher, very unorganised. And a sweetie tin, rescued from someplace. All just stashed together so I'm always rummaging for things.

I also have a washing tablet box for all the free seed offers that have a sew by date of 2013 and even 2014 all put away for the future. But I still have a rummage through it occasionally.

Shoe box with cereal box cuttings as dividers closed firmly with an elastic band. Split in to types of a sort, greenhouse, root veg, brassicas, legumes, herbs, and flowers. Shoe box is completely full so will probably have a cull this coming winter especially the ones where multiples of the same packet are now building (6 autumn king carrots etc).

My work mates got me a tuck box: Burgon & Ball A Day at the Allotment Tool and Tuck Box [BURGOGYO-TUCKTIN] | Capital Gardens which is lovely. No organisation though - occasionally I tie packets together with elastic bans into month batches, but realistically it's chaos. I get a lot of joy out of sitting down sorting through them periodically though!
