  • Cabbage has flopped over

.. it was growing fine and last week I put it under a half bottle cloche (with lid off), I removed the cloche today because the leaves were touching the sides of the bottle, and the cabbage just fell over... the stem is intact but a bit long and the leaves seem in fine shape.

"Will it right itself or is there something I can do?

and for future reference have I caused problems by using the half bottle coche?

At a guess I would say the micro enviroment created has caused the plant to race a head, growing far faster than it should. The main stem didn't need to thicken because the plant was supported by the bottle.

You could try planting it deeper thereby giving the stem some support.

Just pull some soil up round the plant to support it. It will send more roots out from the stem.

Why did you use the pop bottle? Against the cold? (no need, cabbages are cold tolerant, so long as you harden off the cabbage before planting it out)
