WendyC and zazen999, I love the phrase 'fat hen', not heard that before & it's my new saying. I'm so immature I know <sigh>
I wasn't trying to be funny, you might not have known yup, completely immature, but also so funny!

Pots, I was reading something earlier that comfrey doesn't smell if it's presed to ooze liquid, rather than rotted in liquid if that makes sense...I've already got it rotting in a barrel, so can't report back on that yet....

Taff sorry because of the lack of tone in text, I came across quite abrupt but I meant I knew what toms smelt like (I checked this morning & binned said plant). I've learnt so much on here already

Pots, I have the tom feed but will be getting some MiracleGro (& cucumber seeds/plant) at the garden centre when I'm off work Friday My shopping listy is getting longer, woo-hoo!!

Sarriss are your chickens noisy? My friend had some in her large back garden & one kept 'cock-a-doodle-dooing' at silly o'clock so she got rid to someone else only to find another chicken took lead role.

      My favourite animal is steak...

Life expectancy would grow by leaps and bounds if green vegetables smelled as good as bacon.

if it was cock-a-doodle-dooing it was a cockerel, and they are banned in our city limits for that very reason....

I've had a couple of things masquerading as aubs .........one was a tomato . probably my fault picking up the wrong label and the other , I haven't a clue but it isn't fat hen , so I'm letting it grow on in a teeny pot . Purely out of interest

Not really noisy, unless they've just laid an egg. Then they're so proud of themselves they have to cheer a little. The only other time they're noisy, more so this winter, is when they see me in the door way, or if I go out to them. I don't go in the back garden much in the winter, so I guess seeing me means they're getting a treat! I'm training them not to expect it now, i.e. going out there, then coming back in without giving them anything.

I'm lucky that my neighbours love the sound of them, and they're happily taking eggs as bribes!

I bought 9 brussel sprout seedlings from the garden center last year. I ended up with 8 BS seedlings and a very large cabbage. Not altogether an unhappy mistake - even 8 BS plants is rather a lot.
