  • Kicking off at last.

    No not football, gardening.

Just a few days of sun and already things are improving. The pond edge is filling up and we are into fresh radish and small but tasty lettuce.

    Good init!

    Indeed it is!

....problem is that the weeds are as well!!!!

Also the paler green of baby leaves on the trees is beautiful - suddenly they are greening up- lovely

We actually 'sat out' for half an hour after lunch just to sit back , listen to the birds and enjoy the garden.Bliss.

And how! Actually stopped feeding hay to the animals and reduced winter feeding = more time for the gardening.

Working out quite well for my clay - the top is rock hard in the sun, the underneath varies from soft and crumbly to sticky for planting; the weeds have difficulty taking hold on the rock hard surface and hoeing is easy, yet my planted out veg is tapping into the damp underneath and basking in the warmth. Lovely stuff!

I agree and keep hoeing the cap off.

                  OMG.

After just a couple of days sunshine, the lotty has gone mad. Everything was standing still a week ago: now though, the broadies are waist high and the weeds are appearing everywhere. I did 4 hrs weeding and will need another 4 some day this week.

I put down the first cut (mulch) of green manure yesterday: crimson clover, alfalfa and comfrey ~ just roughly chopped and left on the soil

I still have to get the seeding weeds out though, and I wish next door would do his

I went away for one day. On my return, after 2 days of sunshine, in the greenhouse, the kiwi now has 6 large leaves instead of the tiny two it had before we went. {it had about that many before but I did the greenhouse shuffle beginning of march and they got left out overnight and the leaves crisped up and died....]

I'm so glad I went through my plot with a fine tooth comb! I really did goto town digging out all the weeds, double digging my whole (half) plot and covering it with manure/compost. I couldn't go for a month (had a week "off", then was ill for three weeks) - came back to 4 dandelions. Was quite shocked that it wasn't waist high with weeds!

But yes, my broadies are full of flowers, half of them have beans pushing through too Definitely will be using Aquadulce again, overwinter

It's just so tough isn't it? I also got some field beans from the Real Seed Company which I did a Spring sowing of into root trainers becasue I couldn't get onto the bed and they look absolutely amazing. They over winter, too and are also a mulch crop so I'm hoping to bulk up seed numbers and get some to eat.
